It’s going to be one crowded day in Azeroth. After today’s normal Tuesday downtime for scheduled maintenance, it appears that the long-awaited World of Warcraft Patch 3.1 is going live on all servers today. Nothing like patch day to break every single one of your add-ons. If you play WoW, you’ll know what I’m talking about.
Like many MMORPG games, World of Warcraft is an ever-shifting, changing world, updating itself constantly with new quests, new rewards and new ways to justify its tens of millions of subscribers to keep forking over $15 a month. Patch 3.1 is more than a simple in-game upgrade; this is the first major patch since the Wrath of the Lich King expansion came out. The changes in 3.1 will effect virtually every aspect of gameplay. More after the jump.
3.1 brings some very noticeable and immediate improvements to the game, including the ability to dual spec your characters, negating the need for constant re-spec come raid night. All character classes have been changed in some form or another. The Argent Tournament is a new in-game time suck, offering new dailies and repeatable quests to trade for weapons and mounts, and of course, the all-new Ulduar raid has been implemented, which features vehicular boss encounters and (apparently) a fiendish difficulty curve.
For the best roundup of live patch changes, I suggest the freakishly detailed coverage of WoW Insider’s Guide to Patch 3.1, which covers in gloriously nerdy detail every minutiae class change, raid update, gear addition and of course, class nerf. Expect the WoW forums to be a… noisy place in the next few weeks.
And what are the odds? I kid you not. I just canceled my account today. I’ve been getting pretty bored with the game, and have less and less time to devote to endless repeating quests and grinding reputations in Northrend.And they release 3.1 the VERY DAY I cancel? Man, that’s cruel.

The trailer they created for this has me more excited to renew for the summer than the content itself. I’m only in Outland now, and I’ve stopped playing that character because I absolutely hate playing my Warrior.
Poor Gurlock, nobody loves a Fury Warrior.
No, nobody loves a Fury Warrior. It’s true. But now you can dual respec to Prot, and everyone will love you again!
But only if I’m 80. Which I’m not. ;_;
Outland + Warrior = “WHY IS ALL OF THIS FRIGGING PLATE PALLY GEAR”
What gibberish is this?
Found a really great World of Warcraft guide! I definitely feel it was worth the money and am recommending it to everyone. I’d been tempted by the gold selling sites several times and yesterday…. was starting to look at them seriously for the first time. Definately worth it.
