We speculated it, and now Capcom confirmed it: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is indeed coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360, but not quite in the way we hoped. The game will be released this summer on the PSN and Xbox Live networks for about fifteen dollars, but will not be receiving the HD remix treatment that Street Figher II received.
According to Kotaku, the game will include an optional visual filter that will “smooth out” the game graphics for HD-capable televisions, as the graphics are based from the original Dreamcast port. Three modes, “Classic”, “Smooth” and “Crisp” are offered, upping the bilinear filtering accordingly. Hopefully, this makes an improvement.
I’m excited, but less so now that I realize we won’t get the proper HD fix. The ability to have online matches is tempting, but I’ve already got a Dreamcast and a copy of the game. There’s less incentive to upgrade than I had hoped.
Ah, who am I kidding? I’m totally going to get it. Look for a demo on the PSN at the end of May — no info yet on Xbox Live demo.
