Guantanamo the video game! (And a list of other horrible ideas.)

guant1

Well this is going to surely sell like hotcakes or the equivalent baked good in Iran:

A Scottish firm is set to make millions from a computer game based on Guantanamo Bay.

And they have brought in Moazzam Begg – one of nine British Muslims held in the jail before being released in 2005 – to help them get it right.

The Glasgow firm T-Enterprise hopes to make £3 million pounds from Rendition: Guantanamo where gamers play terrorist suspects trying to escape from the prison.

Begg, 41, has been helping them get the details right, and will even have a staring role in the game.

Is Khalid Sheikh Mohammed a playable character?  I sure hope so!

gta_dlc2

The picture pretty much says it all.

Contrary to Rockstar’s last bit of GTA4 DLC (The Lost and Damned) which had you getting down n dirty with a gang of bikers (wait… that didn’t sound right…) ‘The Ballad of Gay Tony’ promises to give you a glimpse of the swanky Liberty City nightlife as you take the role of Luiz Lopez, assistant to nightclub owner Tony “Gay Tony” Prince.

Let’s hope GLAAD hasn’t seen this yet.

More exciting for those of you who hate doling out M$ points: Both DLC’s will be wrangled, corralled, and pressed to retail disc sometime this fall – even farther out in rumorville: This retail disc JUST MIGHT release for both Xbox360 AND Playstation 3.

I’m still working on digesting the mammoth steak BBQ from yesterday’s Memorail Day grill-a-thon, so while my enzymes do their dirty work, how about a quick discussion about the role of foodstuffs in our gaming?

Review: Punch-Out!! (Wii)

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

I kill you right in your stupid face yo!

I punch you right in your stupid face yo!

The Charge:
Little Mac is Back!

Opening Statement:
If there ever was a case of a video game developer catching lightning in a bottle, it would be Nintendo with their late 80s exultant ode to pugilism, Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! on the original NES.  Picture the sweet science cranked all the way to 11, and that pretty much sums up what Punch-Out!! was all about.  Yet despite the simplicity of the game play, in 22 years, never again has a video game so depicted boxing with the same level  of success  as that beloved little NES title, not even its own sequel Super Punch-Out!! seven years later seemed to measure up.  After skipping two whole console generations, Little Mac and co have spent the past 15 years training for a comeback.  Following a brief flirtation with digital fisticuffs in Wii Sports Boxing, the Wii seemed like the natural stage for said return performance.  But is this once proud champion truly ready to step back into the squared circle, or is Punch-Out!! one fighter that should’ve spent a little longer in the gym?

Review: Terminator Salvation (PS3/PC/Xbox360)

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

It can't be bargained with... it can't be reasoned with...

It can't be bargained with... it can't be reasoned with... It CAN be finished in less time than it takes to watch T2!

The Charge:

The End Begins.

Opening Statement:

With the film right around the corner, Terminator Salvation makes its timely debut on Xbox360 and PS3. The guys at Grin, who recently brought us Wanted: Weapons of Fate, have tried once again to give fans a movie tie-in worth playing. Do they succeed in offering us salvation? Or is this one game that deserves to be terminated.
