We questioned the wisdom of making a realistic combat sim based on actual events that happened in the second Iraq War a few weeks back on BLAST PROCESSING (If you ain’t listening, what the hell is your problem man!?), and we got out of the gate just ahead of the minor breeze of controversy that followed.

Konami, respoding to the early outcry, unceremoniously dropped the title earlier this week.

While the concept behind the game, Six Days in Fallujah is definitely interesting, it’s pretty easy to understand why families of slain soldiers and guys who were involved in the conflict would take offense to the idea of a realistic simulation of a bloody six-day conflict. The developers at Atomic Games have claimed that over 40 people from both sides of the conflict were invloved with the game’s development.

Meanwhile, Atomic Games has said they were suprised by Konami’s decision, and that work on the title was progressing well and on schedule. In spite of losing their backer, Atomic hopes to continue working on the title in the hopes of a release date in early or mid 2010.

How do you feel about Six Days in Fallujah? Too soon? Capitalizing on human misery? Or is it a viable simulation of military conflict that could add a well needed dose of reality to the genre?
