WoW: The Shattering!

Farewell, Azeroth! It’s been a blast. Now you have a gigantic hole in you, and a dragon came out of it. You’ll probably want to get a doctor to look at that.

Must have been something Azeroth ate.

The Shattering is here! Blizzard’s massively addictive and popular behemoth World of Warcraft will see the release of its newest world-changing expansion Cataclysm in two short weeks. In preparation, the latest patch released today has torn the world of Azeroth a new hole, literally. Fans looking to play the new character classes (goblens and worgens) and explore new high-level content will have to wait until December 7th, but the world changes today.

Entire continents have shifted. Lands have been torn asunder by rocks and lava and destruction. Cities have burned down, and new encampments have been hastily erected. It’s a whole new game, folks.

Oh, and they molested warlocks something fierce. But that’s how it goes. Everyone gets a taste of the nerf hammer.

Check the jump below for a list of the official changes.

BLAST PROCESSING! Episode 70: Welcome to Earth!

In a world where your life is no longer your own…

Steve, Jon, Adam, and Erich, our Token American(patent pending) invite you to partake of our spirited discussion on the timely topic of internet privacy as it relates to Blizzards World of Warcraft and Starcraft II Internet Forums. Is it really that big of a thing that they’re making people use their real names?
But first, You must wander through the usual mire and muck of what we’ve been playing, what we’ve been buying but not playing, why Blast Processing has a restraining order against Mrs. Adam, what Erich thinks of OnLive and Alan Wake, Jon’s opinion of The Mega Man Zero Collection, and what awesome item Erich purchased last weekend! Hint: It is awesome!
We also celebrate the one and only holiday that’s all about Presidents who fly fighter planes and punching Aliens right in their stupid faces by waxing nostalgic about some of the great (and awful) games from Arcades past that have yet to appear in some form of home collection. There are also the usual offensive bits about female WoW players and Mac Gamers.

How do you feel about Blizzard’s new stance on anonymity? Did you read Jon’s Sin and Punishment review? Are you mad at Steve for his insensitive comments about women who play WoW? Why not let us know over in the DVD Verdict Jury Room forums, or by emailing at feedback@pixelverdict.com.

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm announced

wow-cataclysm-logo-580[1]

Announced at BlizzCon 2009, the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion pack is revealed to be World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, confirming numerous rumors swirling around the internet, revealed now as entirely true. In terms of in-game shake-ups, this is as big as things get in the world of MMORPG, with the return of an ancient and long-buried evil literally tearing the world a new hole, literally. The whole Cataclysm thing is an accurate title, as Blizzard will use this opportunity to go back and re-design the entire shape of Azeroth, modifying, removing and sundering entire continents and zones.

A breakdown of the new additions after the jump.

Peggle World of Warcraft Edition is the end of civilization

pegglewowedition

This is a dark, dark day for PC gamers, my friends. It was bad enough that Blizzard released World of Warcraft, a game so fiendishly addictive and involving that it threatened our basest of bodily functions. Oh, if that wasn’t bad enough. Then PopCap released Peggle, the addictive and maddeningly enjoyable time-waster that swept virtually every platform in existence, from computer to console to cellular phone.

Suddenly, horribly, PopCap came out with an in-game mod for World of Warcraft to allow gamers to play Peggle from within the game. This was a terrifying bit of software programming. The few moments of travel in Azeroth are now spent idly plinking away orange pegs. But now, PopCap has released a special stand-alone version of Peggle World of Warcraft Edition for people to play outside of Azeroth.

In a frightening bit of postmodernist software design, we are now expected to constantly be playing Peggle at all times–on every console, device and electronic gadget you own. When you put said device down and start to play World of Warcraft, you must also now play Peggle. And on the off-chance that the WoW servers are down, now you can play Peggle with a Warcraft-themed paint job.

When PopCap releases a version of Peggle that you play in your sleep, it’s all ov–oh no, I’m too late

StarCraft II Beta: Now Open!

starcraft_ii_zerg

Want to participate in the beta testing for StarCraft II, the sequel to Blizzard’s eponymous strategy game? Of course you do. So head on over to their website and sign up. Beta testing slots are now open, so get your application in. If you don’t already have a Battle.net account, you’ll need one to opt-in to the random selection process. You will also have to upload a snapshot of your system specs, to make sure you’ve got the graphical juice to drive this puppy. If Blizzard wants you, they’ll come a knockin’ in the next few months.

As for me? Never. Are you kidding? It took me two years to kick the World of Warcraft addiction. The LAST thing I need is… is…

Ah, crap. (signs up)
