E3 Spoiler! Tatsunoku Vs. Capcom headed stateside!

Holy crap! People still read Nintendo Power?!

Holy crap! People still read Nintendo Power?!

Normally, I’d try to remain calm and file this under “rumor”, but unless this is the greatest Photoshop job ever pulled; the latest issue of Nintendo Power is reporting that the impossible has occured, and Capcom are bringing their new mash-up 2D fighter Tatsunoku Vs. Capcom to North American gamers.

Dead Rising 2 Eats My Radar Screen

I know it had its detractors, but I was–am–a humongous fan of Capcom’s original zombie-multitude-murder epic.  The save system was a bastard and led to a couple of frustrating restarts, but the story, gameplay and humor of Dead Rising were all winners in my book.

With the sequel on the horizon, set in a new venue primed for more quirky weapon usage, starring a new dude who’s obviously knows his way around chainsaws, I breathlessly await the opportunity to continue my undead slaying adventures.

Does the Dead Rising franchise float your boat as much as mine?

BLAST PROCESSING! Episode 10: This One Goes Out to Chun Li Asperschlager

wolviebaby

As Erich takes a week off to sojourn on the magical voyage of fatherhood, Dave, Steve and Jon begin the show by helping him with video game-inspired name options for his bouncing, baby offspring.  And that’s as warm and fuzzy as it gets, as the discussion promptly diverts into the realm of the bloody and eviscerated with three takes on Raven’s vicious new hack ‘n slash, X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

From there, it’s on to Jon once again setting the bandwidth on fire through his nigh-erotic love affair for Capcom and their plan to bring over some PS1 classics to the PlayStation Network; Steve tossing in more grist to the rumor mill with speculation over Apple buying out EA; and Dave weighing the ethical questions of stores licensing exclusive gameplay content through their pre-ordering process.

Finally, it’s a trip around the horn sounding off about this week’s Symposiumn ad Nauseum topic: video game dogs.  Woof!

Confirmed: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for PSN, XBLA

We speculated it, and now Capcom confirmed it: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is indeed coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360, but not quite in the way we hoped. The game will be released this summer on the PSN and Xbox Live networks for about fifteen dollars, but will not be receiving the HD remix treatment that Street Figher II received.

BLAST PROCESSING! Episode 8: The Legend of Donnie Dumphy

dumphy_chief

Confused by the title of this show? This week’s podcast doesn’t offer many answers. Still, Erich, Dave, Jon, and Steve try to make sense of their corner of the gaming world while talking about Far Cry 2, Too Human, Ninja Blade, Fire Pro Wrestling, Rhythm Heaven, Samurai Shodown Anthology, Resident Evil 4, and Conan. In the news section, Dave confesses to pre-ordering the new Wolverine game because of something called a “dismemberment room,” Erich wonders whether the upcoming Rock Band titles will hit before music games die, Steve looks forward to more Fallout post-apocalyptic goodness, and Jon crosses his fingers in hopes that Capcom will be announcing something cool at CAPTIVATE ’09. They wrap things up with this week’s Symposium Ad Nauseum topic, “Kick-Ass Female Protagonists,” and finish with the lamest sign-off ever. HD Remix of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 in works?

marvel-vs-capcom-2

After the cash cow success of Street Fighter 2 getting the HD treatment, Capcom has been mum on which game will be getting the next treatment (though they have dropped hints that there will be next games). Based on chatter, a HD Remix is looking increasingly likely for Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and soon.

Fighting purists may snark on the elaborately over-the-top combat system, the 3-on-3 fights where 200-hit combos are not uncommon, and the complete and utter lack of canon uniting characters from all manner of video games and comic franchises into a battle royale, but so what? MVC2 is one of the main reasons why I hold the Dreamcast in such high regard. It’s a fantastic brawler, and a HD remix would be groin-grabbingly amazing.

Solid details are still forthcoming, but prying eyes have uncovered possible achievements appearing for the game, a hopeful sign of things to come. With a bit of luck, we’ll all be sitting around soon on XBLA having our butts handed to us by some fifteen year-old Korean kid, using Cable like a cheap bastard. Personally, I can’t wait. I’m masochistic like that.

Review: Resident Evil 5 (PS3/XBOX360)

re5_screen3The Charge:

You Don’t Have to Face Fear Alone

Opening Statement:

4 years after Resident Evil 4 re-energized the series and brought in an army of new fans, Resident Evil 5 is upon us. The name of the game this time around is co-op play, and the story is of the white-knuckle variety. There’s action, intensity and gore galore, but does it stand up to its now legendary predecessor?
