Dragon Age Expansion announced!

From the Makers of the Best RPG of 2009, Dragon Age: Origins, comes the first official expansion pack.

For centuries, the Grey Wardens—the ancient order of guardians, sworn to unite and defend the lands—have been battling the darkspawn forces. Legend spoke that slaying the Archdemon would have put an end to the darkspawn threat for centuries to come, but somehow they remain.

You are the Grey Warden Commander and have been entrusted with the duty of rebuilding the order of Grey Wardens and uncovering the secrets of the darkspawn and how they managed to remain.

How you choose to rebuild your order, how you resolve the conflict with “The Architect”, and how you determine the fate of the darkspawn will be but some of the many complex choices that await and shape your journey as you venture to the new land of Amaranthine.

A Stunning World Expanded: BioWare’s deepest universe to date just got bigger with an all new area of the world to explore, Amaranthine

  • Unlock the secrets of the Darkspawn and their true motivations
  • Rebuild the Grey Warden order and establish their base of operations at Vigil’s Keep

All-new Complex Moral Choices: Embark on an epic story that is completely defined and reactive to your play style

  • Shape your entire experience based on the choices you make and how your handle complex situations

New Ways to Customize your Hero: Experience additional spells, abilities, specializations, and items to further personalize and customize your hero and party

  • Import your character from Dragon Age: Origins or start anew as a Grey Warden from the neighboring land of Orlais

Free Arkham Asylum DLC Coming Thursday, Punching and Capes Promised

bmaw

Have I mentioned recently how much I love Arkham Asylum?  Yes, yes I have.  Eidos bumps up my love another degree with its details for FREE DLC, which will be available on Thursday.

Two more challenge rooms come with The Insane Night pack, a supposedly unforgiving combat room called “Totally Insane” and “Nocturnal Hunter,” a predator mode.

Sounds good, though I’d love a combat survival mode, where you fight an endless onslaught of thugs.  The fighting system is just that good.

New Grand Theft Auto 4 Content announced. Ohhh boy.

gta_dlc2

The picture pretty much says it all.

Contrary to Rockstar’s last bit of GTA4 DLC (The Lost and Damned) which had you getting down n dirty with a gang of bikers (wait… that didn’t sound right…) ‘The Ballad of Gay Tony’ promises to give you a glimpse of the swanky Liberty City nightlife as you take the role of Luiz Lopez, assistant to nightclub owner Tony “Gay Tony” Prince.

Let’s hope GLAAD hasn’t seen this yet.

More exciting for those of you who hate doling out M$ points: Both DLC’s will be wrangled, corralled, and pressed to retail disc sometime this fall – even farther out in rumorville: This retail disc JUST MIGHT release for both Xbox360 AND Playstation 3.

Fallout 3 DLC – now for all, but wait… there’s MORE!

fallout3-2008-12-21-16-47-46-42

They're coming back... and they are pissed.

Bethesda, developers of the best damn game of 2008, Fallout 3, today announced that their up to now PC/Xbox360 exclusive downloadable content will be making it’s way to Playstation 3 owners beginning with Operation: Anchorage this June. The Pitt and Broken Steel will follow 4-6 weeks apart.

That’s not all. Two new pieces of DLC were also announced, debuting first on Microsoft’s console, and following shortly after Broken Steel on the PSN:

Point Lookout: An all new region of swampland, described by Todd Howard of Bethesda as “huge!” Details are sketchy at this point, but the size of the region is supposed to be pretty substantial, and will feature a main questline and several side quests. Howard elaborated in an interview with IGN, stating that the area is based on Point Lookout State Park in Maryland, and states: “picture backwoods Maryland, where the bombs didn’t actually fall, but the world has left it behind.”

Mothership Zeta: Those who were lucky enough to stumble across the Alien distress beacon in Fallout 3 will get to witness the response in Mothership Zeta. This one promies to be a retro alien-abduction story drenched in 50′s pastiche, but with that biting edge typical of the Fallout franchise. Howard promises a pretty stark change of scenery with this one, as the Fallout 3 team has had to generate a lot of new artwork and assets.

But wait… theres MORE…

PC and Xbox360 owners will be able to purchase the add-ons on physical media starting the end of this month! The first disc, containing Operation: Anchroage and The Pitt will go on sale on May 26th. The second will come in August, and will contain Broken Steel and Point Lookout.

PS3 owners will get their shot at a collection of all of the addpons in October when the Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition drops for the PS3, 360, and PC, including all 5 add-on packs.

Howard claims this is it for now, as if it weren’t enough, but he doesn’t say no to more possible add-ons in the near future.

Rock Band DLC:
Party Like A Rock Star

pj-tenSeminal grunge act Pearl Jam’s debut album Ten came out today (on Xbox 360, Thursday on PS3) in the form of Rock Band downloadable content. The early nineties served as my formative years and shaped my musical interests so much so that I often get accused of having tastes that are cemented in that time period. Honestly, I don’t argue… because 1991 was, is and forever will be the greatest year for rock and roll in my lifetime. That’s an argu… er, a discussion for another day. Long story short, Ten is a great album that I still listen to consistently to this day.

The album track pack will cost you 1440 Microsoft points (that’s a steep, but standard $18), or you can buy the tracks individually for two bucks each. All the songs from the album are included (unlike Nirvana’s Nevermind) with the exception of “Alive,” which is already on the Rock Band 2 disc.

I have high hopes for Ten because “Alive” is one of the most fun songs to play in Rock Band 2. It fits the bill as a great “party” song in the same vein as “Livin’ on a Prayer” and “Any Way You Want It” – the tunes that get played early and often when a group of people get together to play Rock Band. Those songs earn high marks in the categories most critical to rocking out as a group:

Hands on Halo 3‘s Mythic Maps

halomythic1

As most of the Halo faithful probably already know, the Halo Wars Limited Collector’s Edition (fancy!) came with a key to download Bungie‘s new Mythic Map Pack for Halo 3 before anyone else. I finally tore myself away from the tiny (in stature, not magnitude) tussle raging between diminutive Spartans and Lilliputian Elites to give Halo 3‘s new arenas of death a whirl. Here’s a quick and dirty rundown of the new maps:
