For those of you who missed it over on our DVD Verdict, my review of the new DVD release for Felicia Day’s hit web series The Guild hit last week. Summary and full review below!
Combining both completed seasons, The Guild: Seasons One & Two is a geeksplosion of MMORPG and internet humor not suitable for TV—which is too bad because the writing and production values are better than a lot of the current network schlock. The set has 22 episodes across two discs, which sounds like a lot until you realize that each episode lasts about five minutes. Even so, the wealth of extras—including audio commentaries, gag reels, interviews, PDF scripts, and the show’s Christmas videos—makes this a worthwhile purchase for fans.
Sure, you can watch the show online for free (at the official site, MSN.com, or on your Xbox360), but being able to watch these complete seasons as mini-movies without the interruption of opening and closing credits every few minutes is pretty darn great. Think of it as a videogame you play with your DVD remote.
