Adam, Steve, and Erich wrap up Pixel Verdict’s E3 2010 coverage by tackling Nintendo and Sony’s press conferences. The Big N comes on strong with entries in classic game franchises from Metroid to Donkey Kong, Kirby to Zelda, Mario to (gasp) Kid Icarus!? Plus, they reveal the glasses-free 3D successor to their DS handheld juggernaut—and it’s awesome. Meanwhile, Sony pushes their own (more expensive) brand of 3D, reveals the launch line up for the PlayStation Move motion controller, and goes for the game trailer montage record. To hear this podcast in 3D, just cross your eyes for the next hour and twenty minutes.

As a committed “hardcore” type of gamer (yay Ninja Gaiden 2! Boo Horsez Magical Marshmallow Journeys), the fact that I had this game on my must-buy list was a big step out of my comfort zone.
But the previews I read about 5th Cell’s wonder-game had me craving it and so it resided just below Uncharted 2 on my most-anticipated fall gaming list. Does it live up to the hype?
Scoreboard reads: Fresh Prince of Bel-Air 1, Dude Lebowski 0
The Charge:
Does solid tech a good game make?
Opening Statement:
When the Nintendo Wii launched in 2005 to a shockingly positive reception, its bundled pack-in title, Wii Sports played a huge part in its success, eventually going on to outsell the original Super Mario Bros., becoming the best-selling pack-in title of all time with near 50 Million titles moved. Just to help drill that little statistic home…that’s more than six times what Halo 3 sold, ten times that of the last console Zelda title. Continue reading Review: Wii Sports Resort
Aww yeah.
Consider the light zapper. No, seriously, think about it. For many children, the most amazing part of the original Nintendo Entertainment System was the NES Zapper, a silver-gray (quickly replaced with hunting orange) handheld pistol that allowed us to hunt ducks in our living room. It made an entire generation of boys and girls want to murder a snickering dog. It even made a gigantic, satisfying CLANG noise when you pulled the trigger. It had springs. Springs meant quality.
We’re spoiled today by our Wii remotes and our Natal technology (or we will be soon). It was a gun that shot light! Or at least that was what we were lead to believe. So there weren’t many game developers that opted to design games for it, or for the Light Phaser for the Sega Master System (my personal gun of choice because they modeled it off an obscure Japanese anime). These were novelties at best–a clever use of cathode-ray technology that to this day I still can’t quite understand (magic, I assume).

I don’t know what “Diva Girls” are but as long as they’re not as whorish as the Bratz, then I’m willing to give them a fair shake. If you’re a Wii and/or DS owner and have long thought that your life has thus far been a sad, incomplete batch of misery and discontentment without the presence of an adolescent-girl-ice-skating sim, then buck up champ, your time has come!
Diva Girls: Divas on Ice will triple Lutz into your hearts on June 16. Pulse-quickening screens after the jump.
