PS3 Slim, Price Drop Announced, Shock is Absent

psskinny

It was a horribly kept rumor, but finally Sony has spilled the beans about both it’s svelte new PS3, a handsome devil for sure, and price cuts to its bloated siblings.  The slim comes with a 120GB hard drive and a $299 price tag.  The 80 gigger has been chopped to $299 and the 160 GB will retail at $399.  Not bad and overdue.

This is no doubt music the ears of third party developers and, I would guess, anyone on the fence over dipping into Sony’s pool.

Go Ahead and Buy That Latte: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled Now $5 Cheaper

tmnt_reshelled_pv

A move of generosity or a video game publisher bullied into submission by the gaming community? Either way, those of us who complained about next week’s XBLA Summer of Arcade offering TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled costing $15 can stop our bellyaching. As reported on Joystiq, Ubisoft is letting the amphibious teen brawler go for $10 (800 MS to you and me).

Though all but one of the “Summer” games are hitting with a 1200 point price tag (platformer ‘Splosion Man being the other tenner title), Re-Shelled got the biggest flack from fans, who weren’t sure giving a 15-year-old game an HD facelift was worth the extra scratch. Now they’ll just have to decide whether it’s worth $10.

BLAST PROCESSING! Episode 5: Major Announcement, Minor Disappointment

bp5_drivethru

It’s a podcast for the ages! Erich is back this week and rushes to the Wii’s defense, forcing Adam, Tim, and Jon to all say something nice about Nintendo’s beleaguered system. He then lightens up enough to lead a discussion of games being played, including two versions of Resident Evil 4, Chrono Trigger on the DS, the Rhythm Heaven demo, Halo Wars, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, and Sin and Punishment. After a brief respite to catch up on GDC announcements for new Zelda and Syndicate games, the boys launch into an epic throwdown on the pluses and minuses of Sony dropping the price on the PS2 instead of the PS3. Feathers fly, punches are thrown; frankly, it’s a wonder no one died during the recording. The show wraps up with a lightning round of Symposium Ad Nauseum and Jon’s musings about Square Enix’s takeover of Eidos.

If you thought that description was long, wait ’til you hear the podcast. Those who make it to the end should let us know by emailing feedback@pixelverdict.com or sounding off in the comments below.
