BLAST PROCESSING! Episode 22: Leper Dead (aka Zack Attack)

streets_of_rage_zack_attack

This week’s show feels a lot longer than it actually is, but is that good or bad? You decide. Erich, Dave, and Adam tackle a full slate of games in Now Playing, including Red Faction: Guerrilla, Mirror’s Edge, Far Cry 2, Crackdown, N+ and Punch-Out!! multiplayer, Boom Blox, and Metroid Fusion. After a couple of false starts (edited out and best forgotten), the gang tackles this week’s News rundown: a 360 update, Rock Band user-created content, The Beatles: Rock Band track list woes, black Wiis (but not for us), Streets of Rage hits the iPhone, and the Summer of Arcade gets pricey. The show usually ends with Symposium Ad Nauseum, but this week devolves into a brainstorming session for a Saved By The Bell brawler. Help us Jimmy Fallon, you’re our only hope!

Another week, another question for you guys: What would you like to see in a Saved By The Bell side-scrolling brawler? Tell us in the comments below, in the DVD Verdict Jury Room forums, or by emailing feedback@pixelverdict.com.

BLAST PROCESSING! Episode 19: Halo Is My World of Warcraft

Erich, Tim, and Adam take the podcast to strange new places this week, covering exotic topics like personal computers, friend codes, and whether modern video games are too complicated to attract new players. In the newly named (thanks to Tim) “Now Playing” segment, the boys talk World of Warcraft addiction, Resident Evil 5 woes, Mario Kart, Picross DS, and Tiger Woods 10. In News, Tim looks forward to Brutal Legend; Adam’s joy about potential PS2 backwards compatibility on the PS3 is dampened by a cynical take on Sony’s business model; and Erich fires back at the Wii “Demo Play” whiners. Dave may not be on the podcast this week, but he’s here in spirit thanks to his most bizarre Symposium Ad Nauseum topic yet: “Video game character you would least like to be trapped with in the boiler room of Bayside High during the senior prom.” Yikes!

Symposium ad Nauseum: Video Game Character You Would Least Like To Be Trapped With in the Boiler Room of Bayside High During the Senior Prom

Pardon the esoteric topic, but as any devotee of the legendary teen sitcom Saved by the Bell knows, there are few places in the world more conducive to claustrophobia, filthiness, anger and despair than the cramped boiler room at Bayside High School.

This is where, if you recall, Slater and Jessie were trapped while just above the prom was going on, thus depriving them of a seminal moment in their post-adolescent development.

If Jesse and Slater, the Romeo and Juliet of our time, can’t hack it, what makes you think that you and _________ could?!

BLAST PROCESSING! Episode 16: That Mario Itch

It’s a wild and wooly return to our normal podcast format this week, as Erich, Dave, Adam, and Steve ramble their way through tangents, technical difficulties, innuendo, and the occasional video game talk. Dave hacks his way through a bargain bin purchase of Devil May Cry 4, Adam gets sucked back into World of Warcraft, Erich replays New Super Mario Bros., and Steve talks Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings before laying into Prototype. The crew puts a bow on E3 with final thoughts on games like Just Cause 2, Castlevania: Lord of Shadows, and Assassins Creed 2, leading into a discussion of which games they actually plan on buying before year’s end. (Spoiler: Steve’s going to buy everything.) And if Dave’s Skype connection hadn’t reduced him to feeding text messages for Steve to read aloud, there might actually have been a discussion of this week’s Symposium Ad Nauseum topic: Favorite Capcom Game. Where’s “that guy from Saved By the Bell” when you need him?

What do you plan on picking up this year? Add it to the comments below, or join the discussion in the Jury Room forums. Afraid of public scrutiny? Email us at feedback@pixelverdict.com.
