BLAST PROCESSING! Episode 53: A Bit of a Tease

bp-53

Erich, Tim, and Dave roll up the red carpet with a round of “Oscar Best Picture nominee video game tie-ins”—a bad idea that gets progressively worse. Things get better once talk turns to video games, as Dave embraces fight stick ownership, Tim earns his merit badge, and Erich decides on an unlikely first game purchase for 2010. Games discussed this episode include Street Fighter IV, Modern Warfare 2, Borderlands, Gears of War 2, Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, and Mega Man 10.

BLAST PROCESSING! Episode 51: The Efficient Gamer

bp_51

Dave, Tim, and Erich run through the games they’ve been playing—including Modern Warfare 2, Mass Effect, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, ‘Splosion Man, Dante’s Inferno, and Street Fighter IV—before looking ahead to big (and little) titles on the horizon. Dave wonders whether he should try Heavy Rain, Tim wonders whether he’ll be able to find a PS3 before God of War III comes out, and Erich wonders whether the Xbox Live Arcade Game Room will be worth downloading. No Symposium Ad Nauseum this week, but we have a very good excuse. At least, I think we do. You’ll have to listen to find out.

Make your own excuses in the comments below, over in the DVD Verdict Jury Room forums, or by emailing us at feedback@pixelverdict.com.

Best Games of the Year 2009: Adam’s List

pv09

Ah, 2009. A fun year for video games and a broke year for this reviewer, who in his shame admits freely to having not played as many games as his esteemed colleagues-in-pixilated-arms. I mean, I just got Borderlands as a Christmas gift, so there’s no making it onto my list this year (blasphemous, I know.) Always lagging behind, I am. And look—not a single PC-only game on my Top 5. I don’t even recognize myself in the mirror anymore.

Click the jump below to check out my Top 5 picks of the year, as well as two noteworthy honorable mentions.

Best Games of the Year 2009: Jon’s List

pv09

Whew! This year was a close one.  With a wedding so pay for this coming March, and full year’s worth of can’t miss games released over the course of 2009, I didn’t think I was going to make it out alive (or at the very least, out of shark-tank debt).  I’m in agreement with Steve that trying to pick just five out of the squall of sterling digital offerings we’ve had this past year is a cruel endeavour.  After spending much of the holidays in tears, trying to trim the fat from my list, I think I’ve finally tapered it down to an unfortunately circumscribe five (plus two honourable mentions).  So before we ring out the Aughties, or Zeroes, or whatever you hipsters are calling the soon to be decade past, I’d like to regale the gamers among you with my personal favourite games of 2009.  And no…Prototype is not on the list.

BLAST PROCESSING! Episode 32: Go Team Canada!

team-canada

The head shrink takes a week off, leaving the inmates running the asylum. Steve, Adam, and Jon bring some Canadian flair to the proceedings as they dig deep, peel back the layers, and get to the real heart of video game podcasting. Adam talks about World of Warcraft content updates, We all love Scribblenauts, Jon gets Wet and Steve races fast cars and prances around New Mombasa as Nathan Fillion (what?). We also learn that no one wants a PSP Go, Super Street Fighter 4 is coming, Dave Johnson needs roofing work done, Steve wants Enslaved, and Bioware (but not pure wholesome Canadian Bioware) and Lucasarts are gearing to start beta testing on Star Wars: The Old Republic. Meanwhile, more games get scheduled for ‘Q1 2010′, including more obscure stuff that only Steve cares about, and Demon’s Souls made HARDER? What? We clue everything up with a discussion about crappy physics, or crappy Genesis games. This episode may be bad, but it ain’t Earnest Evans!

The following words do not appear in this week’s Canuck-centric podcast – Bacon, beer, Beaver, toonie, looney, touque, Tim Horton’s, Degrassi, aboot, eh, or hockey.

Special cameo appearance by Adam’s wife (OMG! A gurlz!)

Music credits:
Opening: the theme from Danger Bay
Closing: ‘Run With Us’ from The Raccoons

BLAST PROCESSING! Episode 28: Chimney Sweepz

chimney_sweepz

It’s two-player co-op this week. Erich talks to Dave about his Man-Bat crush on Arkham Asylum, whether the game should get a sequel, why online Rock Band 2 isn’t necessarily plug ‘n’ play, guitar injuries, poor sports in Street Fighter IV, bad British accents, Renaissance “Faires,” the Xbox 360 price cut, repackaged games, and this week’s Symposium Ad Nauseum: Superheroes in Dire Need of a Great Game.

BLAST PROCESSING! Episode 9: Making Bear Money

bp_bear_riding

Maybe it was the late night recording session, but this week’s episode is a wacky one. with tangents and teasing a-plenty. When the game talk finally begins, Erich, Dave, Tim, and Adam chat about new DLC for Left 4 Dead and Street Fighter IV, the retro goodness of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and The Typing of the Dead, Too Human, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Crackdown, Pure, Chrono Trigger, Peggle Dual Shot, the newest addition to the Asperschlager household, and a yard sale opportunity missed. An abbreviated news segment touches on the head-scratching possibilities of a game in which Mr. T fights Nazis, and the latest rumors about the next PSP. That last item leads into a discussion of dead video formats for some reason, followed by Dave surprising the group with this week’s Symposium Ad Nauseum topic—an experiment in improvisation we probably won’t try again.
