Say you’re a renowned video game publisher and you’re sitting on one of the most lucrative intellectual properties ever created for the medium. The fan base is rabid, there’s worldwide recognition of the characters, a highly anticipated video game is forthcoming, and there’s nowhere else you can go but up after your last theatrical treatment of the material. What do you do? If you’re Capcom, you slap together a Street Fighter movie that bears pretty much no resemblance to the games, turns the best-loved characters into no-shows, poops all over the characters that are included, and make it all excruciatingly boring.

Anyone who tunes into our award-winning* podcast, BLAST PROCESSING should know that many of us here at Pixel Verdict are dyed-in-the-wool fans of the Sega Dreamcast. It may have had a short shelf life, but it holds a high place of honor on our video game nostalgia shrine. If nothing else, it goes to show how a well-made console with fantastic games can still fail in the marketplace, for reasons beyond pure system excellence.
Recently, ThinkGeek came across a magical cache of unopened, new in box Dreamcast systems, and sold them to eager devotees for $99 a pop. They sold out in record time (but keep an eye on them, as they might get more). To mark this auspicious occasion, or to assist anyone who wanders into a used video game store and takes one of the little white consoles home for the first time, let’s run down some of the best video games for the system.
And yes, there are a lot of fighting games listed here. It was what the Dreamcast was good at, after all. Read on after the jump.

With Street Fighter mania claiming the PS3 and 360 crowd it was assumed that Capcom wouldn’t be far behind with an iteration of their flagship fighting series for the most popular console in the world. Ask yourself this: are you man enough to fight with Street Fighter Friends?
Dave, Adam and Erich talk all things Street Fighter, from Dave’s hatred of fireball spammers to Adam’s love of Zangief-on-Zangief action (he’s got a thing for scantily-clad Russian men with tufts of chesthair suplexing each other) to Erich’s introduction to the series, which is 15 years too late, but hey, better late than never.
