Nowadays, “shooter” typically refers to the third or first-person genre, you running around with a gun blasting away at aliens and explosive red barrels.

But listen up kids–back in the day, a “shooter” was a game where you directed a tiny spacecraft around a  horizontally or vertically scrolling screen and shot glowy balls and weirdo aliens.

I typically don’t have the attention span to dig into open world games,  and the ones that keep me interested are the action-oriented fare (Prototype, Hulk).  However, there is a big aspect that appeals to a linear-gaming fan like me: the endless capabilities to @#$% around.

Give game designers credit–they know their target audience. Following in the proud footsteps of comic books, Saturday morning cartoons and my eighth grade physical science notebook, video games have embraced the wildly disproportionate female body type.

The topic–most infamous examples of sacrificing anatomical realism and a well-adjusted perception of women for cheap thrills.
