BLAST PROCESSING! Episode 26: Lean and Mean

aerobics_slim_bp

In honor of the big Sony announcement, Erich, Dave, and Tim keep this week’s show to a slim 34 minutes. Actually, it has more to do with Erich being sick and Dave needing to hit the local ice cream stand before it closes, but the boys still manage a quick Now Playing segment, talking Wii Sports Resort, Rhythm Heaven, Flipnote Studio, Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, and everyone’s intention to buy Shadow Complex. The news segment is all about Sony’s second worst-kept secret: the PS3 Slim. Will a redesign and lower price tag mean a turnaround for this generation’s third place console? Finally, Symposium Ad Nauseum: Non-Main Stream Sports Games.

BLAST PROCESSING! Episode 25: Mainlander Go Home

trespassers

Erich spends a good hour trying to separate feuding Canadians Steve and Adam, all while talking games like the Mothership Zeta expansion to Fallout 3, the Batman: Arkham Asylum demo, Left 4 Dead, Wii Sports Resort, Rhythm Heaven, and a massive MMORPG discussion ranging from World of Warcraft to the new documentary Second Skin. In news, Star Wars hits the Virtual Console, Steve loves the Brutal Legend soundtrack, Bioshock 2 has an S.O.S. for the world, Madden 10 has swimsuit issues, and Guitar Hero 5 takes its guns to town. This week’s Symposium Ad Nauseum is surprisingly tricky, but not as tricky as getting Steve to kick off a brand new segment.

The Charge:
Does solid tech a good game make?

Opening Statement:

When the Nintendo Wii launched in 2005 to a shockingly positive reception, its bundled pack-in title, Wii Sports played a huge part in its success, eventually going on to outsell the original Super Mario Bros., becoming the best-selling pack-in title of all time with near 50 Million titles moved.  Just to help drill that little statistic home…that’s more than six times what Halo 3 sold, ten times that of the last console Zelda title.  Continue reading Review: Wii Sports Resort

BLAST PROCESSING! Episode 24: High On The Juice

Erich, Tim, and Dave hop on the psychiatrist’s couch this week, coming to grips with quitting a beloved gaming franchise. The juicy whos whats and hows lie within, along with the ‘Splosion Man demo, Castle Crashers, Pinball Hall of Fame: Williams Collection, Wii Sports Resort, Wii Fit, Golden Axe: Beast Rider, and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. In the news: new Left 4 Dead content no one will buy, a Turtles in Time Re-Shelled price drop, shrinking Xbox 360 install sizes, Braid comes to PS3, and classic rockers “Tap” into Rock Band. Finally, Symposium Ad Nauseum: Roid Raging. Just in case you were wondering, this week’s episode definitely wasn’t derailed by a lengthy discussion about Reginald VelJohnson. Yeah right.

Wii MotionPlus dated for US, June 8

Now with more waggling!

Now with more waggling!

Announced way back in July 2008, Nintendo’s Wii controller add-on, the Wii MotionPlus finally has a US street date: June 8. For $20, you get a small plastic add-on to attach to the butt end of your remote, which increases the responsiveness, sensitivity and accuracy of the Wii remote, so much so (claims Nintendo) to offer 1:1 motion response. This means that the remote would respond immediately to real-time action, without delay or lag or the general waggling inaccuracies of the current controller.

It’s an interesting idea, and one certainly priced reasonably enough (although many have asked why we are being charged $20 to “fix” something that should have been implemented at launch) but the make-or-break test of the MotionPlus, oddly enough, won’t happen for another month. More after the jump.
