The Charge
Resistance is…fun!
Opening Statement
Who says there’s only room in the Gears of War universe for violence-loving, grown-up gamers? Not Jack! While Marcus is shooting and killing, Jack has other things to do. Like play Jenga!

The Charge
He will beat your 8 with a Jack. And you will beg for mercy.
Opening Statement
Many people felt that Sony would always be hyper-protective of Kratos, their cash cow, but in a surprising attempt to capture a segment of the casual market, the God of War brand was taken in a radically different direction for the Nintendo Wii. The question is: will fans of the ultra-violent, visceral combat that has defined the series accept this new incarnation?
Announced way back in July 2008, Nintendo’s Wii controller add-on, the Wii MotionPlus finally has a US street date: June 8. For $20, you get a small plastic add-on to attach to the butt end of your remote, which increases the responsiveness, sensitivity and accuracy of the Wii remote, so much so (claims Nintendo) to offer 1:1 motion response. This means that the remote would respond immediately to real-time action, without delay or lag or the general waggling inaccuracies of the current controller.
It’s an interesting idea, and one certainly priced reasonably enough (although many have asked why we are being charged $20 to “fix” something that should have been implemented at launch) but the make-or-break test of the MotionPlus, oddly enough, won’t happen for another month. More after the jump.

Although this post will certainly have Erich scratching his head and wondering whose side I’m on, for entertainment’s sake I feel compelled to share a little anecdote from last weekend.
My wife and I are expecting our first child and the time for showers is fast approaching, so we went to Babies ‘R’ Us on Saturday afternoon to register for some essentials (hooray for free stuff). As evidenced by the above image (taken with my cell phone), Babies ‘R’ Us is now offering the Wii, along with a few select games, including Wii Fit and My Fitness Coach. I checked around for some Xbox stuff, but unsurprisingly the pictured display is the extent of their video game section. My wife probably wouldn’t let me register for Resident Evil 5 anyway.

It’s a podcast for the ages! Erich is back this week and rushes to the Wii’s defense, forcing Adam, Tim, and Jon to all say something nice about Nintendo’s beleaguered system. He then lightens up enough to lead a discussion of games being played, including two versions of Resident Evil 4, Chrono Trigger on the DS, the Rhythm Heaven demo, Halo Wars, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, and Sin and Punishment. After a brief respite to catch up on GDC announcements for new Zelda and Syndicate games, the boys launch into an epic throwdown on the pluses and minuses of Sony dropping the price on the PS2 instead of the PS3. Feathers fly, punches are thrown; frankly, it’s a wonder no one died during the recording. The show wraps up with a lightning round of Symposium Ad Nauseum and Jon’s musings about Square Enix’s takeover of Eidos.
If you thought that description was long, wait ’til you hear the podcast. Those who make it to the end should let us know by emailing feedback@pixelverdict.com or sounding off in the comments below.

What’s this? A licensed game that might actually be worth playing?
Disney Interactive Studios is bringing a popular theme park attraction from the Midway to the living room this fall with Toy Story Mania!, exclusively for the Wii—a collection of interactive shooting gallery and mini games for up to four players, hosted by characters from the Pixar classic (which just happens to be getting a Disney Digital 3D™ re-release in October). The good news: for less than the price of four day passes to Disneyland you can buy a Wii and a copy of Toy Story Mania! The bad news: there’s no way the Wii will be able to replicate the high-tech 3D experience of the actual attraction. Plus, no photo-op with Goofy. Still, considering the kind of licensed junk Wii owners have become accustomed to, there’s plenty of room for the very capable Disney to impress.

The Charge
Sometimes fighting isn’t enough.
Opening Statement
With Street Fighter mania claiming the PS3 and 360 crowd it was assumed that Capcom wouldn’t be far behind with an iteration of their flagship fighting series for the most popular console in the world. Ask yourself this: are you man enough to fight with Street Fighter Friends?
