WoW: The Shattering!

Farewell, Azeroth! It’s been a blast. Now you have a gigantic hole in you, and a dragon came out of it. You’ll probably want to get a doctor to look at that.

Must have been something Azeroth ate.

The Shattering is here! Blizzard’s massively addictive and popular behemoth World of Warcraft will see the release of its newest world-changing expansion Cataclysm in two short weeks. In preparation, the latest patch released today has torn the world of Azeroth a new hole, literally. Fans looking to play the new character classes (goblens and worgens) and explore new high-level content will have to wait until December 7th, but the world changes today.

Entire continents have shifted. Lands have been torn asunder by rocks and lava and destruction. Cities have burned down, and new encampments have been hastily erected. It’s a whole new game, folks.

Oh, and they molested warlocks something fierce. But that’s how it goes. Everyone gets a taste of the nerf hammer.

Check the jump below for a list of the official changes.

BLAST PROCESSING! Episode 79: Drums in the Deep!

Steve and Jon are back after facing hardships, chaos, destruction and evil Corporate stormchasers as Hurricane Igor (eye-gore) tore across the harsh barren rock that is their homeland. Adam, having braved only the hardship of a brisk lazy Indian Summer in Ontario is along for the ride.

Steve’s been busy with demos, Enslaved is awesome, Arcania: Gothic 4 threatens to pluck him away from other, lesser open world RPGs, and Front Mission: Evolved is… well.. it has giant robots. Jon has finally hopped on the Borderlands gravy train now that it’s a greatest hit, he too loves Enslaved, and his thoughts on Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions leads to discussion on how to make Spiderman work as a video game. Adam, meanwhile, has delved too greedily and too deep into the scary realm of Minecraft, and feeds his WoW monkey some more. That monkey must way 700 pounds by now.

We close it all off with some thoughts about this years Tokyo Game Show, some talk of random nonsense, and the utter sadness that is the delay of Two Worlds II. So give a listen!

How do you feel about Minecraft? The new Ninja Theory-led Devil May Cry reboot? How awesome was TGS this year? (answer: So awesome!) Should Adam use Minecraft’s robust toolset to build a 1:1 in game replica of The USS Enterprise? A Star Destroyer? or The Mines of Moria? These are important questions! Sound off! Tell us what you think! Share in the comments below, over in the DVD Verdict Jury Room forums, or by emailing feedback@pixelverdict.com.

BLAST PROCESSING! Episode 74: The Getting Old ‘Cast

While Steve is on vacation, Erich breaks into the studio to record a podcast filled with rants and ramblings about not having time to play games and other side effects of getting old. He is joined by fellow old-timers Adam and Tim, who manage to calm gramps down long enough to talk about Halo Wars, Resident Evil 5, Alan Wake, and the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion.

BLAST PROCESSING! Episode 70: Welcome to Earth!

In a world where your life is no longer your own…

Steve, Jon, Adam, and Erich, our Token American(patent pending) invite you to partake of our spirited discussion on the timely topic of internet privacy as it relates to Blizzards World of Warcraft and Starcraft II Internet Forums. Is it really that big of a thing that they’re making people use their real names?
But first, You must wander through the usual mire and muck of what we’ve been playing, what we’ve been buying but not playing, why Blast Processing has a restraining order against Mrs. Adam, what Erich thinks of OnLive and Alan Wake, Jon’s opinion of The Mega Man Zero Collection, and what awesome item Erich purchased last weekend! Hint: It is awesome!
We also celebrate the one and only holiday that’s all about Presidents who fly fighter planes and punching Aliens right in their stupid faces by waxing nostalgic about some of the great (and awful) games from Arcades past that have yet to appear in some form of home collection. There are also the usual offensive bits about female WoW players and Mac Gamers.

How do you feel about Blizzard’s new stance on anonymity? Did you read Jon’s Sin and Punishment review? Are you mad at Steve for his insensitive comments about women who play WoW? Why not let us know over in the DVD Verdict Jury Room forums, or by emailing at feedback@pixelverdict.com.

BLAST PROCESSING! Episode 32: Go Team Canada!

team-canada

The head shrink takes a week off, leaving the inmates running the asylum. Steve, Adam, and Jon bring some Canadian flair to the proceedings as they dig deep, peel back the layers, and get to the real heart of video game podcasting. Adam talks about World of Warcraft content updates, We all love Scribblenauts, Jon gets Wet and Steve races fast cars and prances around New Mombasa as Nathan Fillion (what?). We also learn that no one wants a PSP Go, Super Street Fighter 4 is coming, Dave Johnson needs roofing work done, Steve wants Enslaved, and Bioware (but not pure wholesome Canadian Bioware) and Lucasarts are gearing to start beta testing on Star Wars: The Old Republic. Meanwhile, more games get scheduled for ‘Q1 2010′, including more obscure stuff that only Steve cares about, and Demon’s Souls made HARDER? What? We clue everything up with a discussion about crappy physics, or crappy Genesis games. This episode may be bad, but it ain’t Earnest Evans!

The following words do not appear in this week’s Canuck-centric podcast – Bacon, beer, Beaver, toonie, looney, touque, Tim Horton’s, Degrassi, aboot, eh, or hockey.

Special cameo appearance by Adam’s wife (OMG! A gurlz!)

Music credits:
Opening: the theme from Danger Bay
Closing: ‘Run With Us’ from The Raccoons

Review: Second Skin

(originally published on DVD Verdict)

The Charge

Reality is only skin deep.

Opening Statement

The independent documentary Second Skin is an eye-opening look at the worldwide Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) phenomenon. What drives more than 50 million people to spend a large part of their lives in a virtual world? For some, it’s the game itself—building a character and going on quests to fell mythical beasts and collect gold. For others, it’s a social environment—a place to meet like-minded people. For many, the appeal is in the anonymity. No matter how awkward, overweight, or isolated in “real” life, a player can be as powerful and attractive as they want to be online. Second Skin follows seven gamers as they find love, deal with life changes, and even fight addiction.

wow-cataclysm-logo-580[1]

Announced at BlizzCon 2009, the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion pack is revealed to be World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, confirming numerous rumors swirling around the internet, revealed now as entirely true. In terms of in-game shake-ups, this is as big as things get in the world of MMORPG, with the return of an ancient and long-buried evil literally tearing the world a new hole, literally. The whole Cataclysm thing is an accurate title, as Blizzard will use this opportunity to go back and re-design the entire shape of Azeroth, modifying, removing and sundering entire continents and zones.

A breakdown of the new additions after the jump.

BLAST PROCESSING! Episode 25: Mainlander Go Home

trespassers

Erich spends a good hour trying to separate feuding Canadians Steve and Adam, all while talking games like the Mothership Zeta expansion to Fallout 3, the Batman: Arkham Asylum demo, Left 4 Dead, Wii Sports Resort, Rhythm Heaven, and a massive MMORPG discussion ranging from World of Warcraft to the new documentary Second Skin. In news, Star Wars hits the Virtual Console, Steve loves the Brutal Legend soundtrack, Bioshock 2 has an S.O.S. for the world, Madden 10 has swimsuit issues, and Guitar Hero 5 takes its guns to town. This week’s Symposium Ad Nauseum is surprisingly tricky, but not as tricky as getting Steve to kick off a brand new segment.
